James Traynor RangersCharles Green has confirmed the appointment of James Traynor as Director of Communications at Ibrox.

Less than a week after quitting the Daily Record by sounding off at fellow journalists and internet bloggers Traynor has been given the job of ensuring that Green’s message is delivered without questioning- just as he did loyally for David Murray, Craig Whyte and Green.

Part of Traynor’s remit is to lead Rangers International into the digital era despite his long standing contempt for the on-line army of bloggers who’ve used social media to highlight issues that would otherwise be buried.

Traynor’s departure from the Record has long been speculated on with the grapevine buzzing in recent weeks anticipating a move to Ibrox. Close observers have noted his fingerprints over recent announcements especially the club backed boycott of tickets for the Scottish Cup tie with Dundee United.

Regardless of who was in power at Ibrox they could be guaranteed the fulsome backing of Traynor whether it was in print or on the airwaves of state funded broadcaster Radio Scotland.

In April 2010 Traynor famously clashed with Chick Young on air over who was the biggest sycophant of Rangers as they exchanged insults calling each other cheerleaders and puppets. That morning the Daily Record had carried a front page story from Alastair Johnston promising that Rangers will never go bust.

At that time Traynor was still championing the cause of Craig Whyte having exclusively revealed the interest of the Motherwell born billionaire six months earlier.

James Traynor newsTraynor and the Record continued to back Whyte until January of this year with Rangers plunging into administration a month later.

Announcing today’s appointment the Rangers website stated: “James will be head of media and oversee the development of all media platforms including Rangers TV, digital, online and print publications.

“He joins Rangers following a distinguished journalistic career with the Herald, Express and Daily Record newspapers as well as being a presenter with the BBC.

“In his role at Ibrox, James will be supported by the Rangers Media editorial team, the Press Office and external media advisers, Media House.”

The BBC finally dropped Traynor from their Your Call phone-in where he’d regularly denounce the investigations of BBC colleagues.

Absolutely correct gerry. This man murdo macleod ,I refuse to use any other title ,is embarrassing in his rush to decry all things celtic from his position as commentator with Radio Scotland sports team.Mind you ,should we be anything other than surprised from a bloody mason. The real anti celtic people can coerce and control sad people like Keevins who most certainly will take up traynors baton and I await the latest bile from this horrible man.As for nicholas and provan they will walk under any banner they are told too,so nothing surprises me with both of them.We need to stop embracing these bastards as celtic men as they are often described in the media,Let us make it clear to them they are not of us in any way and never have been for many, many years.
