Steve Simonsen newsSevco keeper Steve Simonsen will quit twitter at 5pm after his son received on-line abuse following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat from Dundee United.

With the tie in the balance Simonsen failed to control a Dick Foster pass to present Nadir Ciftci with the easiest of chances with the striker gleffully driving the ball into the empty net.

After the match big-hearted Ally McCoist refused to blame his keeper for the error but on-line it was a different story as the air turned blue with criticism of Simonsen and his 11-year-old son.

Late last night Simo tweeted: “Ive taken the unfortunate decision that as of 5pm tomorrow this account will be deleted,I won’t accept mindless abuse of my family & son.

“I understand this spoils things for the thousands of genuine fans & followers out there, but I will not accept the idiots who resort.”

Simo added: “My Son comes on twitter to follow his heroes including his dad, & ends up having idiots abusing him. He’s 11 years old.. His first ever trip to ibrox to watch his dad ends up with him receiving abuse because I included him in a tweet, I’m sorry but I’m not tolerating it!”

After his howler on Saturday the keeper turned to twitter saying: “Throughly Gutted by today, I can guarantee you that, & raging with my mistake for 3rd goal. Fans were magnificent though as always!”

Looking forward to the game the former Everton shot stopper revealed: “Feel so sorry for Cammy, it’s Rotten Iuck, but I will step up; I want this so much, for me, for my teammates, my kids, & The Rangers Family!”

Simonsen signed a one year Ibrox deal in the summer after Neil Alexander quit Ibrox and may have to return closer to his Merseyside home after being disqualified from driving for a year.
