Stewart ReganJust over three years into the key role as Performance Director Mark Wotte has quit the SFA.

The Dutchman was a cornerstone of Stewart Regan’s plan to mastermind a revolution in Scottish football but little sign of progress has been made.

Earlier this month Scotland’s u-19 side failed to get beyond the first qualifying round of the European Championships losing out to Norway and Lithuania.

Commenting on Wotte’s departure Regan said: “On behalf of the board and staff at the Scottish FA, I would like to thank Mark for taking the performance strategy from an ambitious goal in the early days of our strategic plan, Scotland United: A 2020 Vision, to an exciting reality.

“In just over three years, we have already seen signs of great progress and I would reiterate my thanks to Mark for providing such a solid foundation on which to build future success for Scottish football.”

Wotte was introduced by the SFA in June 2011 to a fanfare based mainly on the fact that he was Dutch.

At the time of the appointment Regan said: “The appointment of a performance director was the single most important recommendation in the Henry McLeish review of Scottish football.

“The remit is to take Scottish football from good to great once again, by planning a route from grass roots to the senior national men’s and women’s teams and creating a “best v best” culture.

“I am delighted Mark has accepted this challenge and myself, Craig Levein, Campbell Ogilvie and the board are confident Mark’s coaching and performance experience will help realise our ambitions.”
