Europa LeagueRed Bull Salzburg prepared for their Europa League tie against Celtic with a 2-1 win away to Sturm Graz.

The win stretches their lead at the top of the table to six points with Adi Hutter’s side on course to retain the title.

Massimo Bruno and Jonatan Soriano scored early in each half for Salzburg before Marco Djuricin pulling a goal back for the home side with ten minutes left to play.

Salzburg have been in impressive form since opening their Europa League group with a 2-2 draw at home to Celtic with the home and away wins over Dinamo Zagreb sealing their qualification.

Despite already being assured of a place in the last 32 of the competition it’s unlikely that they will ease up on Thursday night having twice gone through the group phase with full points.

Wakaso Mubarek opened the scoring when the two teams met in March but the Ghanian is unlikely to start on Thursday night after failing to make the bench for Celtic 2-1 win over Dundee.

Celtic need a win to ensure their place in the knock out phase of the competition and came within 10 minutes of qualifying in their previous match when they drew 1-1 away to Astra.

A draw or a defeat could see Celtic go through but that would be dependent on Astra gaining an unlikely win away to Dinamo Zagreb in the other Group D clash.

Dinamo had a quiet weekend with their scheduled opponents Hadjuk Split refusing to take the field after 50 of their fans were banned from the match.

The remaining Hadjuk fans refused to travel with the team deciding on the same action with the match postponed 15 minutes from kick-0ff with the visitors absent!
