spflThe SPFL have moved Sevco’s final Championship match back 24 hours allowing Stuart McCall’s side to complete their campaign after play-off rivals Hibs and Queen of the South!

Sevco were scheduled to play Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday 2 May the same date as Hibs travel to Falkirk and Queen of the South host Dumbarton.

With just five points separating three clubs with three matches left to play it seems certain that the crucial play off positions will be decided on the final round of fixtures. Unfortunately for Hibs and Queen of the South Sevco may go to Tynecastle knowing that a draw will be good enough to give them second place and the top seeding for the play-off series.

Various scenarios are possible with Sevco able to rest players from their final fixture if they are already assured second spot following the results for Hibs and Queen of the South the previous day.

The teams finishing third and fourth in the Championship will play each other with the side finishing third having home advantage for the second leg. The winner of that match will then play the second placed side, who will have home advantage for the second leg, with the victor playing off against the second bottom team in the Premiership for a place in the top flight.

The fixture switch by the SPFL makes a mockery of sporting integrity and denies supporters the excitement of three fixtures in which the play-off positions could vary throughout the ninety minutes.

At lunchtime today the SPFL finally announced the post split fixtures for the Premiership with the news of the date change for the Hearts v Sevco clash announced shortly afterwards.

It remains to be seen whether Hibs or Queen of the South lodge a complaint about this decision.

Today’s date is April 15.
