Mark BurchillFormer Celt Mark Burchill is backing his Livingston squad to complete the great escape tomorrow.

Burchill took over from John McGlynn in mid-season with the club reeling from a five point deduction for being behind with payments to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

Further punishment arrived over the duel ownership issue at the club with a complete registration ban imposed meaning that current players couldn’t be offered new deals.

Despite all those set-back’s Burchill has retained his belief in the squad even through his side failed to win a match during February and March.

A 4-0 win over Alloa in the Challenge Cup Final revived the entire club with 15 points from their last nine matches taking them into second bottom place- and a play-off spot- ahead of tomorrow’s home match with Queen of the South.

At the same time Alloa will host Cowdenbeath with a single point separating the bottom three teams.

“It’s do or die on Saturday, but it’s in our hands,” Burchill stated. “When I took the job I’d have taken being in a situation in the last game of the season, at home, knowing a win could put us in eighth place.

“We know that a draw will put us in the play-offs but I’m going out there thinking it’s a must win match.

“We’re not thinking about the Cowdenbeath and Alloa game at all. We know what we need to do and we just need to go out there and do our job. It’s as simple as that.”

Elsewhere in the Championship Alan Stubbs takes Hibs to Falkirk knowing that if they can match Sevco’s result away to Hearts they will pip the League One champions to second place and one less play-off round.
