Bolton Wanderers - Neil Lennon Press ConferenceBolton have issued a statement following a number of newspaper allegations over the conduct of Neil Lennon.

A number of detailed incidents were published relating to Lennon’s behaviour in and around the club.

Following speculation that the Irishman had left the club Bolton stated: “In response to an article published in the Sunday Mirror on Sunday 20 December, Bolton Wanderers can confirm that the club are currently conducting an internal investigation regarding the matter concerned. The club will be making no further comment at this moment in time.”

Allegations about his personal conduct are the last thing that Lennon needs as he battles on a number of fronts at Bolton.

Details of the club’s financial difficulties came to light when the first team squad weren’t paid their wages in November with new owners required to meet the December payroll and two months Income Tax and National Insurance payments.

Experienced football finance expert Trevor Birch has been brought in to secure new owners with £180m of debt owed to Eddie Davies.

Local businessman Davies seems prepared to write off that figure if a trustworthy new owner can be found but with the club at the bottom of the Championship there has been no rush to take over a club that could be in League One next season.

Bolton have won only one of their 22 league fixtures this season but are only five points adrift of fourth bottom MK Dons.

January looks like being vital to their survival hopes with a buyer needed to avoid relegation AND put in the finance needed to give the club a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.
