development teamA second half header from Nadir Ciftci earned Celtic full points against St Johnstone in the Development League at Airdrie..

Tyler Blackett and Ciftci were given the opportunity to get in some competitive action while Derk Boerrigter made his second start of the season in the Development League.

At the other end of the scale Innes Murray was given a place wide on the right as coach Tommy McIntyre rotated his squad ahead of Friday’s Premier League International Cup tie away to Chelsea.

Celtic managed to make plenty of progress down both flanks but there were no takers when the ball was getting delivered across goal.

Boerrigter and Blackett were combining well down the left while on the othjer side Murray put in a few crosses that kept the Saints keeper on his toes.

Nine minutes into the second half Celtic took the lead with the goal coming from the left flank created by Hendry with Ciftci anticipating the cross perfectly to head low past the keeper from eight yards out.

That goal forced St Johnstone into action with Fasan  pulling off three quality saves in a five minute spell as the Perth side discovered a desire that was absent during the first half.

After a brief wobble Celtic reasserted themselves to record their eighth win from nine matches in the Development League with the other match a draw away to Hamilton Accies.

CELTIC: Fasan; Breslin, Kelleher, McCart, Blackett; McManus, Thomson (Higgins 46); Murray, Hendry, Boerrigter (Archibald 54); Ciftci (Miller 61)
