Daryl MurphyFormer Celt Daryl Murphy is leading Ipswich Town’s push for a play-off place.

Last night Murphy scored the only goal of the game as Mick McCarthy’s side won 1-0 away to Brighton to create a four point cushion above Sheffield Wednesday in seventh place .

The win matched a club record of six on the bounce away from home with McCarthy pleased with the way that the season is developing.

“It’s tough to get a run of away wins and we’ve got Burnley on Saturday – a tough ask, but we’ll see,” the Ipswich boss said.

“It’s not realistic for us to catch Middlesbrough and Derby and I don’t think automatic promotion is realistic but we will be trying like hell to catch them.

“I thought we had an opportunity. Brighton have lost a few players and we were playing them at a good time because we have been playing well.

“I thought we were the better team to be honest. Our keeper Dean Gerken didn’t make a lot of saves. We had the better chances whereas Brighton had the ball percentage.”

Meanwhile in Dingwall Michael Gardyne became Ross County’s top league scorer with a double in the 3-2 win over Kilmarnock- taking his total for the club to 60.

Gardyne played in the Celtic youth side that produced David Marshall and Ross Wallace but failed to make the breakthrough under Gordon Strachan.

Spells at Kilmarnock and Dundee United have brought mixed results but in his third spell with Ross County he has regained his best form.
