Silent shame of BBC Scotland

BBC_SCOTLAND_CMYKCoverage of the anti-catholic singing from Ibrox on Monday has been widespread with one notable exception- BBC Scotland.

While many newspapers, broadcasters and websites covered the story the state funded broadcaster seems to have taken a vow of silence.

The match against Hibs was broadcast live on Radio Scotland with The Billy Boys heard clearly in each half. In 2006 under instruction from UEFA the SFA banned the song which glorifies the killing of catholics with the line ‘we’re upto our knees in Fenian blood surrender or you’ll die’.

Since 2006 the song has been sung regularly at other football grounds, most notably at Hampden, but not in the numbers that joined in at Ibrox on Monday. With 33,000 season ticket holders identifying those involved shouldn’t prove too difficult.

Social media was quickly on the issue with video clips from Hibs fans and BT Sport viewers circulating on twitter and facebook to highlight the matter.

On Monday night Reporting Scotland covered the match with a reporter outside the ground picking up the ‘atmosphere’ as well as showing goal highlights without any mention of the hate song.

After being contacted by the Press Association a statement was released by an un-named SPFL official that they were waiting to read the report of the match delegate before deciding if action should be taken.

Once PA put the story out it was picked up by most news organisations- except the BBC. Visitors to the BBC website can read, watch and listen to the glory of the win over Hibs, pick up the thoughts of Martyn Waghorn and Mark Warburton and even how the company that runs the club has repaid £5m to Mike Ashley.

But there is no mention of The Billy Boys being sung or the possibility of an SPFL investigation.

At the start of the season the BBC did report on Sevco fans being arrested at Easter Road for anti-catholic singing during the Petrofac Cup tie with Hibs.

The upshot of that was the withdrawl of media facilities for Chris McLaughlin which triggered a brief stand-off between the broadcaster and the football company.

After a few meetings, no doubt involving former BBC pundit James Traynor, normal service was resumed with the BBC showing live coverage of League Cup and Petrofac Cup ties.

Announcing the agreement Sevco stated: “FOLLOWING a meeting with the BBC the media privileges of Chris McLaughlin have been reinstated.

Rangers has received assurances from the BBC that their reporting of Rangers; affairs will be balanced.”

It seems that the word balanced has been replaced by neutered or ‘under instruction’ with the BBC backing out of covering thousands of supporters singing about their hatred of catholics over the airwaves of the state broadcaster.

These ‘the peepeell’ yet again shame Scotland with their anthem to a Bridgeton razor gang of anti RC bigots.
Slashing Catholics for fun and wading knee deep in their blood…..and the MSM, including the BBC. shamefully turn a blind eye!
If they tried to chant anti black, P…i, Jewish or N word songs they would rightfully feel the full force of the law!
Why are Catholics, sorry Fenian bastards, seen as fair game in Scotland…. ffs it’s 2016 shortly!

  • SeanBhoy says:

No such thing as ‘balanced’ in Scotland when it concerns the HUNS ……the BBC are in Sevco’s back pocket.

    • Joe McHugh says:

You don’t pay for Radio Clyde, if you don’t like it switch off and they will feel the impact as lower ratings impact on advertising.

Sadly we all have to pay for the bias and censorship of the state broadcaster.

      • The Silver Fhox says:

We do NOT all have to pay for the BBC.
You can give up watching live TV and then you do NOT have to pay for a licence, as long as you let them know you are doing this. You can also let them know why you are doing this.
Try it. I did and have never looked back. You don’t need live TV.
I did it for a different reason, however.

  • Andy says:

The SMSM are quick to inform UEFA when a flare is let off at a Celtic match. They appear reluctant to make that same call when ra peepul are involved., shameful.

  • bill kirk says:

You are surely not expecting the BBC to be impartial? They are part of the problem they are in the pockets of the ” establishment” team and the powerful funny hand shake brigade

  • Thendry says:

I have followed Celtic all my life but I have never known the Scottish &English media to turn a blind eye to the bigoted scum that still run this horrible little island

    • Benbhoy9 says:

  • pammie says:

Why is police Scotland not doing a lot more about this sectarian singing at Ibrox after all if it was at Celtic park there would be a big hue and cry about it their just scum

  • Jimmy1940 says:

The song is already banned and still BBC still not telling the people of this? To their listeners of this.

  • Tyneside No1 says:

Sevco can sing what they want and get away with it and when they play Celtic, the police force come in to the Celtic dressing room to tell us you cannot celebrate if you score today. Just who do they think they are, Police are supposed to be impartial, One rule for Sevco another for other religions and other clubs, I used to respect Nicola Sturgeon but for God’s sake is it not time to speak up woman. What kind of country are you running in 2015. Shame on you.

  • Johnny Irish says:

I spent a long time writing a post yesterday and you said it was spam, I am very upset about this, and have been writing posts for years. One of you lot at Celtic video needs to get a grip.

  • Alex Russell says:

Apart from the BBC,strangely the Daily Rangers has also been afflicted by the same amnesia concerning this matter.

  • BuffyBhoy says:

The Establishment – BBC and Sevco etc – love it when we complain bitterly then. . .do nothing because it re-enforces their superiority and sense of entitlement. It’s a form of defeat in their battle against any interference. Time for a mass campaign of Non payment of BBC licence until they abandon their Irish, Catholic, Celtic bias. Hit them in the pocket and if the media want to know why we get to tell the world why. It could be an interesting New Year if we begin to organise.

  • jimmybhoy says:

all my life i had bigottry becoucse of my believes it is inbred in scotland and certain people only pretends it does not exist but in real scotland it does

  • owen dolan says:

Someone asks “why can’t UEFA be brought in to this”.
The reason is the owners/chairmen/CEO’s of every club in Scotland are quite happy with what is going on.Even if every football supporter in Scotland signed a petition,it would go straight in the trash bin,but if the CEO of my club Celtic (they have had umpteen chances) asked for an investigation they would act.
It would appear that they are quite happy to be involved with convicted tax dodgers, crooks, spivs, and worst of all a corupt Football Association, who have hundred’s of football clubs under their juristiction, but for the last 3/4 years have catered for only one, RIFC.

  • john young says:

Exactly Owen our own board are on board with the scum, never ever have they fought the injustices visited on our Club /fans,never ever have they challenged the bias of referees, what fcuking chance do we have when our board sit stumpf, except that is when Brazier gets away with denigrating the fans, the fans WHO are this club ffs.

  • Wildrover says:

My view is that sevco fans now have a huge chip on their shoulders,as far as they are concerned we(Celtic) in particular and other fans are responsible for their problems, when in truth Murray and his mob ripped the club apart, and all the current lot are no better, the only way to show their descent ,is to no what they are doing,we’ll bring it on,and show yourselfs up for what you really are !.
