lewis bellCeltic’s u-17 side came from behind to win 3-1 away to St Mirren last night.

The Paisley side took the lead in the tenth minute but Lewis Bell and Michael Johnston scored before the interval with a 63rd minute goal from Keiran Campbell claiming the points.

After their 2-0 win away to Motherwell last week there was just one change to the Celtic side who had very short odds at Scottish football betting sites, with u-16 centre half replacing the injured Wallace Duffy in defence, partnering Stephen Welsh.

St Mirren started the match at an impressive pace and deservedly took the lead in the tenth minute after a good move through midfield finished off with a snap shot from the edge of the Celtic penalty box.

It was 25 minutes before Celtic started to exert themselves in the game with the equaliser coming after Kieran Diver had set up Johnston with the ball cleared for a corner.

Johnston’s corner from the left reached the back post with Bell bundling the ball over the line.

Ten minutes from the break Celtic went in front with a brilliant dipping 22 yard free kick from Johnston that the home keeper never got near.

Celtic continued to set the pace after the break with the Saints midfield struggling to offer their defence much protection.

Eighteen minutes into the second half Jack Aitchison won possession just inside the St Mirren half shaking off a fierce challenge from a defender. With three opponents chasing him as he raced towards the penalty box the 15-year-old cut the ball back to Campbell who side stepped a defender then slotted the ball wide of the keeper.

Straight after that goal Kerr McInroy and Broque Watson replaced Ross McLaughlin and Johnston with half an eye on Sunday’s match away to the Fife Elite Academy.

Celtic continued to push forward at every opportunity but were unable to come up with a fourth despite some near misses.
