Brendan RodgersLimerick’s Thomond Park will host the Celtic v Inter Milan International Champions Cup clash on August 13.

The 26,000 capacity stadium has been rumoured to host a Celtic match for a few years with Brendan Rodgers side assured of the warmest of welcome.

Celtic kick off their International Champions Cup clash by hosting Leicester City on July 23 before taking on Barcelona at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin the following Saturday.

The match against Inter is bound to be an emotional occasion celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon season when Jock Stein’s side swept the board picking up five trophies culminating in bringing the big cup to Glasgow.

There had been some suggestions that the Celtic v Inter game would be staged in Portugal but according to the Limerick Leader the match will be staged at Thomond Park.

The paper reports: “European soccer giants Celtic and Inter Milan are set for a August friendly in Limerick.

The duo who memorably met in the 1967 European Cup final will play in Thomond Park on Saturday August 13 at 7pm as part of the International Champions Cup.

Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday June 14 online and from ticketmaster outlets and range in price from €15 to €35.

It is understood that full confirmation of the glamour friendly game will be made in the coming days with representatives of both clubs. The fixture was first reported over three months ago with Thomond Park beating off opposition from a number of different proposals to host the game.”
