Hibs will appear against a five match UEFA touchline imposed on Neil Lennon.

The Hibs boss fell foul of officials during the 1-0 home defeat from Brondby with Spanish ref Juan Martinez Munuera ordering Lennon to the stand after he had disputed a decision to disallow a ‘goal’ from Jason Cummings.

In a brief statement on their disciplinary website UEFA announced: “The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to suspend the Hibernian FC official Neil Lennon for five (5) UEFA competition matches.”

The incident was described as ‘violence against the referee’.

Speaking after the match Lennon said: “I’ll see if I can appeal it. It’s nonsense. It’s a double punishment. We had a good goal disallowed and I was sent to the stand for disagreeing with a wrong decision.

It’s the first time in Europe I’ve been sent to the stand so I’m irked by that. It looked to me as if the ref wanted to be the star of the show rather than the players.

We had a legitimate perfect, brilliant goal disallowed. I was angry as the assistant got it wrong and wasn’t up with play.

I remonstrated with him and was sent off for no reason whatsoever. I didn’t think the ref had a good game, the relationship with his linesmen was poor.”

Hibs won the return leg in Denmark 1-0 but went out after a penalty shoot out, in a short statement on their website Hibs announced that they will appeal the ban.
