Sutton stunned by Ibrox delusion

Chris Sutton can’t get his head around the denial and delusion culture at Ibrox.

The former Celtic striker has ruffled more than a few feathers in recent time with his comments about Mark Warburton upsetting many of a blue persuasion.

Sutton’s comments are no stronger than the criticism that he hit Ronny Deila with, it was a natural conclusion to draw parallels between the two men.

Deila’s insistence on playing a system that his players were uncomfortable with is mirrored at Ibrox where Warburton’s Plan B is to make Plan A work better.

In the Europa League Deila was found out outside of his SPFL comfort zone, for Warbo the top flight is proving way too difficult after a season visiting Dumbarton, Raith Rovers and Queen of the South.

While Sutton calls it as it is it seems that criticising Warburton is out of bounds for the army of former Rangers (IL) players now playing the media game.

Last night on BT Sport Sutton asked: There’s a lot of delusion coming out of Ibrox at the moment. There’s an enormous gap. The scoreline was close but Celtic were miles better than Rangers. There is denial.

I don’t get, as a former player, all the rubbish and talking about “title challengers” and how they “outplayed Celtic”. They’re not in Celtic’s league. They should come out and say Celtic are the benchmark and we need to work very hard.”

Having fooled themselves over ’emerging from liquidation’ reality is the last thing that anyone with Ibrox leanings is prepared to tackle.

With a convicted criminal living in exile as chairman and no sign of the club accounts or a 2016 AGM the problems at Ibrox are more deep rooted than the dressing room or fears over the condition of the roofs.

The emergence of a Sevco Sutton would throw some light onto the issues at the club but with Derek Johnstone and others fronting up the media operations reality will always trail a distant second to delusion.
