Despite three head-to-head defeats and staring at a 19 point gap James Taverier believes that Sevco are getting closer to Celtic.

Last April the White Cafu helped the tribute act to a Scottish Cup semi-final win over the champions of Scotland with #goingfor55 launched soon after.

Rather than face the prospect of being overtaken by Aberdeen in the race for second place Tavs has his eyes firmly on the hoops and a slice of revenge on March 12.

While Celtic fans speculate on how far ahead of their Glasgow ‘rivals’ they’ll be after the third league clash of the season Tavs is expecting the gap between the two clubs to be narrowed!

The gap has definitely shortened,” he told Daily Record readers. “We were only a step away from beating Celtic at Ibrox.

At Celtic Park, it was Brendan Rodgers’ first Old Firm game and you could tell that by their tempo. They were right at it but we almost turned the tables at Ibrox. We’ll continue to try and close the gap and we feel we’re definitely doing that.”

As well as winning 2-1 at Ibrox the SPFL websites states that Celtic were ahead on shots (21-9), shots on target (13-4) and corners (11-4) despite playing three extra matches during December including a Champions League visit to Manchester City.

Tavs has some previous for delusions, on November 18 he predicted: “We have a massive six weeks coming up with some really significant games to play. It’s a great run of matches and all the boys are relishing it.

I want maximum points and that’s not unrealistic. If we play to our potential we can take maximum points and even if we get one draw out of all of those games we’ll have had a really good run.

However, we’re Glasgow Rangers and shouldn’t be expecting to lose any of those games. We want to win them all and that’s why I want to see us getting maximum points.”

Defeats from Celtic and Hearts plus a draw at St Johnstone meant that the former Newcastle star fell a little short of his 27 point target.
