After back to back defeats from Dundee and Inverness Caley Thistle, Sevco have launched the Director of Football moonbeam.
Two weeks after the departure of Mark Warburton the tribute act are still without a manager despite Dave King’s clear vote of no confidence in Warbo at the AGM in November.
Stewart Robertson and EBT architect Andrew Dickson have apparently been in London interviewing candidates for the Director of Football post and also chief coach and reporting back to Mr King in South Africa.
Having watched one match live this season, the SPFL opener against Hamilton Accies in August King’s grasp on the problems on the playing side are likely to be vague.
Stepping in to save the club are two men in their thirties- outgoing Spurs Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell and Southampton’s director of scouting Ross Wilson.
Neither man has worked previously as a Director of Football with Wilson having the sort of football track record that makes Ian Cathro seem like a grizzled veteran of the game.
After seven years at Falkirk where his progress was due to impressing John Hughes, Wilson has been at Watford, Huddersfield and Southampton over the last six years.
In his current post Wilson is being credited with the signing of Virgil van Dijk which seems far fetched since Southampton had already signed Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster in the previous two years with Wilson moving to St Mary’s five months before the van Dijk deal was completed.
Willo joined Southampton in March 2015 as Director of Scouting and Recruitment but seems to have been responsible for the club’s rise from League One to the Europa League.
Southampton’s Chief Scout is Bill Green who has been in the job since December 2011.
With no money for the January transfer window and without the funds to pay off Warbo, David Weir and Frank McParland the reality is that the moonbeams of Wilson and Mitchell are likely to be replaced by Barry Ferguson and Alex McLeish taking charge after fall guy Murty takes charge of the team for the final time away to Celtic on March 12.
