Ally McCoist has launched an incredible attack on Sevco’s plans to install a Director of Football.

The former Ibrox gaffer trousered £750,000 during a year spent in the garden with Sevco now paying the price for those free spending days.

None of McCoist’s signings were ever sold in the transfer market with the Director of Football expected to put in place a scouting system that will identify and develop the next Virgil van Dijk or Victor Wanyama.

McCoist hasn’t set foot inside Ibrox for a single match in the last two years but wasn’t slow to dish out advise to the new regime in the blue room of dignity.

I am not against a director of football but it is absolute garbage if anyone thinks that a director of football is going to solve Rangers’ problems right now,” the former Question of Sport funnyman told the Daily Record.

“It is nonsense. I have never heard so much nonsense in all my life.

“Did Jock Stein have a director of football? Alex Ferguson, Walter Smith, Martin O’Neill? No.

“What they needed was a club run very well and financial backing and that is what is required at Rangers.

“The boy at Southampton, Ross Wilson. What is his budget at Southampton? I don’t know but I would bet it is millions. Is he going to come to Rangers and solve the problem with no budget?”

Coisty added: “Ross Wilson is clearly very good at what he does but my point is he is backed financially to do what he wants to do.

“Rangers need investment, that is exactly what is needed. Clearly you don’t want to put the club in any financial trouble again. That goes without saying but for Rangers to improve on the park, massive investment is needed.

“I couldn’t tell you where it is going to come from, I can only tell you what I think is going to solve the problem.

“I know there has been a bit of money spent but I think we need serious investment.

Since rejecting a move to Ibrox Wilson has been demoted from Southampton guru to former Falkirk scout.

During his time in management McCoist lost cup ties to Alloa, Forfar, Falkirk, Queen of the South and Raith Rovers as well as praising Charles Green’s involvement in the club.

In 2012 McCoist snapped up shares at one pence, later in the year supporters were able to buy shares at 70p. Investors no longer have a platform to buy and sell shares.
