Moritz Jenz is on his way to joining Celtic according to respected French publisher L’equipe.

The 23-year-old defender moved to Lorient last summer in a £3m deal but only appeared in 17 matches in Lique 1.

Jenz started off his career at Fulham and now looks to be following Moussa Dembele, Matt O’Riley and Patrick Roberts to Celtic as Ange Postecoglou looks for a fourth central defender with Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers the established first choice pairing with Stephen Welsh as back up.

L’equipe report:

After a short season in Lorient where he never managed to really win , Moritz Jenz will seek to relaunch his young career in Scotland. The German central defender who arrived last summer from Lausanne Sport is leaving for Celtic Glasgow.

He will not have succeeded in convincing Régis Le Bris, the new coach of Merlus. The nature of the transaction between the two clubs has not yet filtered. Jenz (23) is under contract with FCL until 2026.

After Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers Ange Postecoglou spoke of bringing in two new signings this week, if the report from L’equipe is correct Jenz and Aaron Mooy look like being those players.

Although the transfer window is open for six more weeks Postecoglou appears keen to get business completed to allow his squad to bed in before the Champions League begins in September.

Jenz was born in Berlin but moved to Fulham in 2015, he is under contract with Lorient until June 2026.
