There appears to be a news blackout on the verdict of the latest courtroom battle between Sports Direct International and the club from Ibrox.

The current issue started last July when SDI took action after being sidestepped by the club when they attempted to launch their new kit and associated merchandise through another outlet.

After having his kit launch halted Dave King set up an online outlet but stock levels were low with Hummel reluctant to produce stock that might get embargoed.

SDI continued their legal actions while a city centre store opened in Glasgow with retail income helping to fill the funding gap to meet payroll obligations.

After various legal hearings that had found in favour of SDI it was expected that details of the damages awarded and costs would be given on Thursday.

The Scotsman were one of a number of outlets that carried the following Press Association report:

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley and bosses at Rangers Football Club are waiting for a judge’s ruling on the latest round of a long-running High Court fight over merchandise sales.

Judge Lionel Persey finished overseeing the latest in a series of hearings in London earlier this year. He is scheduled to publish a ruling on Thursday.

Three working days later there hasn’t been any follow up to that report with only online rumours to fill the void. In a strange twist to the case the Megastore at Ibrox closed it doors on Friday lunchtime and hasn’t reopened, SDI run the store.

While the award of damages is important the position going forward is probably of equal importance.

If the new contract entered into in 2017 is enforced it will effectively cut out a vital income stream with the closure of two stores in Glasgow and Belfast with the online outlet also closed down.

A further concern for King could be the reaction of Hummel who have been dragged into the row and only been given a fraction of the turnover and exposure that they expected when they signed up to Ibrox.
