Celtic transfer round-up

|

Neil Lennon’s schedule over the last few days will take a bit of beating.

How many folk have flown from Boston to Glasgow before taking in Lincoln and a Q and A session in Lochee over the weekend?

In amongst the travel the Celtic boss has been wheeling and dealing in the transfer market with the majority of activity in-coming.

Newly wed David James in expected in Glasgow for signing talks today with the final touches put on the deal to bring Gary Hooper from Scunthorpe.

Lennon admitted after the Lincoln game: “We are close to getting Hooper. I think he’ll score goals for us.”

Hopes of signing Sol Campbell seem to be fading with no contact from the defender since his highly publicised visit to Glasgow with links to Matt Derbyshire at Olympiakos dismissed.

Efrain Juarez arrived at Glasgow Airport on Saturday night with talks to sign Israeli midfielder Biram Kayal from Maccabi Haifa poised to continue.

On the pitch Lennon was impressed by the display of Daryl Murphy in the 4-1 win over Lincoln with the former Sunderland striker on the scoresheet.

The Celtic boss said: “I was really pleased with Daryl. He is a hard fella who can score goals and that augurs well for the start of the season.

“He has not done himself any harm with regards the Braga game. He’ll be on the bench at worst.”

Reports from the Q&A in Lochee seemed to distance the club from moves for Craig Bellamy and Robbie Keane with their wages demands reported to be astronomical.

Lennon was reported to be confident of getting Paddy McCourt to sign a new two year contract with Peter Lawwell claiming that after selling just 300 vuvuzelas no more would be sold by Celtic.

Elsewhere in the SPL Rangers are reported to be interested in Stoke striker James Beattie.

Within the same incredible paragraph in the Daily Record the following phrases are all used: financially stricken Scottishg champions, wriggle room in their meagre budget and desperately depleted first team squad!

With an £18,000/week salary cap at Ibrox the striker is likely to return south and be labelled greedy and unambitious.
