Robbie Keane’s low key Tottenham return

|

Robbie Keane made his Tottenham return yesterday in a 4-0 win over Bournemouth whilst the Celtic squad/roster for North America revealed a worrying lack of strikepower.

Without ten players involved at the World Cup Spurs took their first steps of the new season with Keane playing the first 45 minutes without scoring.

An ominous double from Roman Pavlyuchenko helped Spurs to the win ahead of their own American trip which involves a 3-team tournament in New York against local side Red Bulls and Sporting Lisbon.

Celtic fly out tomorrow for their own four game trip with a squad noticably short on recognised strikers.

Marco Fortune and Morten Rasmussen looks the most likely partnership with Ben Hutchison and Paul McGowan also included.

Georgios Samaras is included in the squad but looks certain to be moved on before the transfer window closes with Palermo and Athletico Madrid both reported to be interested in the Greek striker.

The obvious ommission from the squad is Cillian Sheridan. Despite a reasonably successful loan deal at St Johnstone and winning two end of season caps for Ireland it looks increasingly unlikely that his future will be at Celtic.

Making welcome returns to the squad are Simon Ferry and Milan Misun. Ferry will be in demand down south after an impressive season in League One with Swindon while Misun missed the entire season due to an injury picked up against Brisbane Roar a year ago.

Pre-season schedule:

Wednesday July 14 – Philadelphia Union
Friday July 16 – Manchester United (Toronto)
Sunday July 18 – Seattle Sounders
Wednesday July 21 – Sporting Lisbon (Boston)

You Spurs fans must be pleased at last season, finishing fourth and maybe qualifying for your first ever Champions League campaign.

Any special plans for the new season to commemorate the 50th anniversary of your last league title?
