Milan Misun's Dundee debut and Celtic round-up

Milan Misun

Milan Misun has become the latest in a lengthy list of Celts to go out on loan this season and has signed a one month deal with the First Division side.

A month of first team football will do Misun the world of good after missing out on the whole of last season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in the pre-season friendly with Brisbane Roar.

Rab Douglas was the hero for the home side saving a first half penalty from John Baird.

Elsewhere in Division One former Celt Rocco Quinn scored a late winner as Queen of the South came from behind to beat Partick Thistle 2-1 with Ryan Conroy playing against the club that he spent part of last season on loan to.

Football club websites can often seem much of a muchness but the Queen of the South site is an exception. There’s a great passion to the site with quality pictures highlighting the game perfectly.

Almost 4,000 fans were at the Falkirk Stadium to watch the home side beat Morton 2-1. Jason Marr and Mark Millar were in the home side while Sean Fitzharris played 76 minutes for the visitors.

Down south in The Championship there were plenty of happy Celts with Malky Mackay, Paul Lambert, Gordon Strachan and Roy Keane all enjoying wins with Ipswich, Norwich and Watford sitting in the top five.

Malky Mackay’s Watford pulled off the result of the day with a 6-1 win away to Millwall on the back of a 2-0 win away to Bristol City in midweek.

Millwall went into the match with a ten month unbeaten home run but had no answer to the visitors who found the net with six different goalscorers.

“It’s my best result as a boss,” Malky admitted. “To come down here and earn a result like this, scoring goals and creating extra chances, is a great credit to the lads.

“It’s not an easy place to come the Den. You have to match Millwall’s work-rate and nullify their strengths. We went at them and applied ourselves from minute one.

“It’s down to team spirit – we are a young squad and maybe that helps us. We have a sense of togetherness. We have belief and ability, there are no egos- I know how tough this division can be.”

Next Saturday Watford are at home to Middlesbrough.

Strachan might be able to crack open a few cans of kestral tonight after steering Middlesbrough to back-to-back home wins thanks to a 3-1 win over Reading.

News of the win was tempered by the announcement that first team coach Gary McAllister was leaving The Riverside Stadium to become Gerard Houllier’s assistant at Aston Villa.

Barry Robson got ‘Boro off to the perfect start with a goal in 23 seconds with Stephen McManus and Scott McDonald also picking up win bonuses.

Strachan admitted: “Thats six points in two games now so I have got to be satisfied. It definitely helps when you get the early goal like that, although it was not something we planned for.

“In fact it was a wee bit fortuitous. I don’t think the pass was intended for Barry Robson but he nipped in there and finished it off well so no-one is complaining.”

Darren O’Dea returned to the Ipswich side that lost 3-0 at home to leaders QPR in midweek and helped Keane’s side to a 2-0 win over Cardiff who were without Craig Bellamy.

David Marshall and Lee Naylor were in the Cardiff team that lost out to goals from Jason Scotland and an Adam Matthews own goal in front of a crowd of 22,559.

Grant Holt was the goalscorer for Norwich in the 1-0 win away to Preston as Lambert’s side build on last season’s runaway triumph in League One.

Loan Celts Josh Thompson and Graham Carey both picked up booking as Rochdale drew 1-1 away at MK Dons while leaders Huddersfield came from two down to beat the hoops of Yeovil 4-2.

Chris Sutton’s tough managerial apprenticeship continued at Lincoln with Ben Hutchison in the team that lost 3-0 away to Accrington Stanley on Friday night.

After seven games Lincoln are sitting in 18th place in League Two with seven points to show for their efforts. Over in the Bundesliga Mainz05 made it four wins out of four away to Werder Bremen although Morten Rasmussen didn’t play.

Mainz05 are sitting three points clear of Hoffenheim, Kaiserlautern and Freiburg at the top of the table.
