Celtic midfielder Biram Kayal could be out of action until the new year.
A scan yesterday has revealed that a hernia operation is required which is likely to rule him out for three months.
The news is a big blow for the player and also for Neil Lennon’s plans although he is well covered in central midfield.
Kayal made a very impressive debut for Celtic in the 2-0 home win over Utrecht in the Europa League.
His last appearance was in the 2-1 win at Kilmarnock on September 19 when he was replaced by Ki Sung Yeung after 77 minutes.
Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference Lennon confirmed: “Kayal has a persistent hernia problem that he’ll have a scan on today.”
Kayal joined Celtic in August in a £1.5m deal from Maccabi Haifa.
