Peter Lawwell has told Santos Laguna that he would like to formalise relations with the Mexican side.

The Celtic chief was speaking during a three day trip to visit the Mexican club after striker Adrian Ruelas had spent time training with Celtic at Lennoxtown.

Efrain Juarez’s summer transfer has triggered Celtic’s interest and although the midfielder has struggled to establish himself Celtic are clearly keen to gain a foothold in the Mexican market.

John Park, Chris McCart and commercial director Adrian Filby have joined Lawwell in Mexico to see what links can be developed between the two clubs.

Lawwell told the Santos Laguna website : ” The complex is impressive, we have traveled around Europe and the facilities and that Santos Laguna have are equal to or better than anywhere in the European continent.

“You have excellent facilities which are very helpful to the teams reaching their goals.

“The training centre, software development  and sports science is all very important because it will help the team reached the highest levels and achieve new successes.

“Santos is a very modern club, with great leadership. We’ve had very interesting meetings, which give us an idea of how things are done in Mexico, some that can be applied in our country.

“I am sure that all the topics we’ve looked at are of common interests to both clubs. It’s amazing that two clubs are so far apart  share many similarities and values.”
