Officials from Portugal and Poland will be used to cover SPL matches this weekend.

The SFA have been scouring Europe to find referees capable of handing the weekend matches which have been subjected to a random strike action by Scottish officials for reasons that are unclear.

A statement from the Polish FA said: “We are happy we can help the Scottish FA and we are happy that our referees can go to Scotland and gain experience, which will be good for them. We don’t want to be involved in politics, all we want to do is help out.”

Other associations, believed to include Malta, Israel and Luxembourg have offered officials but the SFA are insisting on referees on the FIFA list or Category One within their own country.

All SPL matches will go ahead as normal as will Sunday’s ALBA Cup final between Ross County and Queens of the South.

The Scottish Football League looks like being wiped out but with the temperature expected to plunge over the next 48 hours a raft of postponements were already anticipated.

SPL u-19 fixtures will go ahead as normal with Category 3 officials in charge. Celtic are scheduled to play Hamilton at Bo’ness on Saturday but that game could be a victim of the weather.

Willie McStay appointed Ross County manager.

I wonder if the Polish officials all have pre-match rituals like the Holy Goalie?
