Striking Scottish referees land prime Champions League appointment

Scotland's leading referees

Nothing to laugh about

Would be striker Craig Thomson has been handed control of one of tomorrow’s top Champions League match- Ajax v Real Madrid.

While his colleagues prepare to pull the plug on this weekend’s football card Thomson will be in the Ansterdam ArenA keeping the peace between Jose Mourinho and Martin Jol.

The match brings together two of the competitions most famous names with a combined total of 13 Champions League/European Cup wins.

Assisting Thomson will be two referees unlikely to be invited to Walter Smith’s retirement party- Tom Murphy and Francis Andrews.

A UEFA appointment doesn’t stop at three officials with the happy band of strikers being joined by fourth official Crawford Allan with Allan Muir and Callum Murray running around behind the goals with the title of additional assistant referees.

While Scottish football fans face the prospect of a blank weekend due to referees getting upset by criticism fans at the Ajax-Real Madrid match will be able to watch six Scottish referees in action at the same time!

The SFA usually announce on a Monday the referee appointments for the weekend games but have still to announce their plans for the weekend.

Joe McHugh has been Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.
When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

  • I thought that being on strike meant that you didn’t work. Scabs

This is like NHS nurses going on strike but deciding to work some extra shifts in a Private Hospital in the meantime.

Only goes to prove that these ref’s aren’t striking for any particular cause (as proven by Kenny Clark’s comments on Newsnight lastnight) but are doing so to create a media storm against Celtic.

All because they were caught out fair and square lying. Keep it coming SFA, everyday they get more and more ludicrous.

Nurses and Referees one group help you if your sick no matter your religion or team you support.
The other are either bigots/liars or cowards and make me sick.
