Willie McStay
Willie McStay has been appointed the new manager of Ross County.
The former Celtic coach replaces Derek Adams who left to become assistant manager of Hibs.
McStay’s first match in charge will be Sunday’s ALBA Cup Final against Queen of the South.
Ross County chairman Roy McGregor said: “We are delighted to have moved quickly to secure the services of a manager of Willie’s calibre. There has been a huge amount of interest in this post.
“From the candidates we interviewed, we feel Willie’s experience and approach best suits the club and what we are working to achieve here.
“He obviously joins us in an exciting week, with a cup final as his first match in charge, but his clear priority in coming weeks will be progress and consistency in our First Division campaign.”
McStay spent 15 years at Celtic working as youth and reserve coach before leaving in the summer.
Last season he spent eight months in charge of Ujpest Doxsa helping the club to the semi-final of the Hungarian club before leaving due to financial problems.
During his time at Celtic he helped develop a dozen internationalists including Aiden McGeady, Shaun Maloney and Darren O’Dea.
After his playing career ended McStay had a successful spell in charge of Sligo Rovers where he helped the second division club to win the FAI Cup.
Ross County are currently sitting just one point off bottom place in Division One but only 14 points behind league leaders Raith Rovers.
Amongst the Ross County squad McStay will be familiar with Paul Lawson, Michael McGovern and Michael Gardyne who he worked with at Celtic.
