James Forrest has praised the Celtic support for their role in Sunday’s derby win over Rangers.
The 19-year-old made his first top team appearance against Rangers and never looked ruffled by the intensity of the game.
After a three month injury absence the winger was delighted to help Neil Lennon’s side to a significant victory and to experience the Celtic support in full voice.
“It was a great atmosphere,” he told Channel 67. “The Celtic fans were different class and those are the type of games that you want to play in.
“I wasn’t really nervous during the build up. I had played before in a few Old Firm games (at youth level), it’s the game that everyone looks towards and getting three points at Ibrox meant a lot.
“I’ve never known an atmosphere like it before. At youth level the coaches tell you it’s a big game but the Celtic fans made the match even bigger. They were singing for the whole game.”
Celtic went into the match as clear underdogs with Lennon’s options badly effected by injury, suspension and international call ups.
On the back of five nervous and uninspiring home performances optimism was thin on the ground but Forrest had no concerns about Celtic’s form going into the match.
“We had beaten St Johnstone and Motherwell and I felt that we were playing well and had a good chance,” he added.
“Everyone was confident in training and looking forward to the game and we performed well in the match.
“We were underdogs and maybe Rangers went into the game thinking that they might win quite comfortably but we showed that we’re just as good as them.
“If we’d had lost Rangers would have been ahead of us with two games in hand. It’s tighter now and we want to build on our win at Ibrox.”
