Lennon looking to add a defender

Neil Lennon Celtic newsNeil Lennon has confirmed that he wants to bring in a defender during the transfer window.

Nottingham Forest defender Kelvin Wilson has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Celtic in the summer but Billy Davies doesn’t seem keen to negotiate a transfer fee.

Jos Hooiveld’s loan deal to Copenhagen leaves Celtic thin on defensive cover for Thomas Rogne and Daniel Majstorovic with Lennon looking to bring in a defender this month.

“We’re looking in that department,” the Celtic boss told channel 67. “We’ve signed Kelvin Wilson on a pre-contract. Whether or not we can get him in during the window is another thing- if we can’t then we’ll look to strengthen there.

“Glenn (Loovens) has been out for six or seven weeks, he’ll be fit soon but we’ll definatly need to get at least one more in.”

Despite sending Hooiveld out on loan to Copenhagen Lennon still believes that the Dutchman has a contribution to make at Celtic.

He added: “We want Jose to get some game time, things haven’t gone as well as he’d have liked.

“There’s an opportunity for him to go and get some game time then come back fresher and better equipped for next season.

“We knew that Thomas was a talent a talent and he’s staying injury free, Daniel  has been playing very well, very consistent. It’s important to keep the back four as consistent as we can.

“The two full-backs are playing well and there’s a good understanding at the back.”
