Kris Commons- There is a winning mentality here

|

Kris Commons Celtic newsNew bhoy Kris Commons paid tribute to the fighting spirit of his team-mates as Celtic fought their way back to earn a 2-2 draw with Rangers.

The former Derby man had a bittersweet derby debut that saw him find the net then be substituted before half time.

Commons ‘took one for the team’ when he made way for Lucasz Zaluska after Fraser Forster was red carded in 38th minute after equalising Jamie Ness’ third minute opener.

Zaluska’s first touch was to pick Steven Whittaker’s penalty out of the net with Commons looking on in admiration as Celtic dominated the second half.

“We still dominated possession and had the best chances,” he declared. “We were a little bit unlucky that we did not come away with a win but we are looking at it as a bit of a win, really. Hopefully next time I’ll get to play more than than 30-odd minutes.

“You have to make sacrifices for the team,” he admitted. “The manager made that choice and it turned out to be the right choice.

“In terms of morale and confidence, to come to Ibrox and have that much possession while playing best part of the game with 10 men, shows the bond that we have got and we can look forward to the next couple of weeks.

“There is a winning mentality here and you’ve seen that when we went down to 10 men and went a goal down again.

“We never gave up. We still played football, created a lot of chances and we could have gone away with the win – no doubt about that.”

Looks like he could be the goal scoring midfielder we’ve been crying out for. Was surprised he was subbed, I thought it would have been Ki, but Lennon got it spot on. Good to read Commons comments and see he hasn’t spat the dummy out over it.
