Loan Ranger Diouf- I love this club

|

Gary Hooper Celtic newsAfter another anonymous performance against Celtic El Hadji-Diouf has issued a rallying call to the new found love of his life.

The loan Rangers was substituted by David Healy after 68 minutes as the Ibrox men slumped to their biggest defeat from Celtic in six years.

Rangers boss Walter Smith described the performance as the worst at Parkhead since he took over from Paul le Guen but that hasn’t stopped Diouf from shouting the odds.

After being outsmarted by Scott Brown in the Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox the Blackburn outcast decided to open his heart to The Sun about how the Celtic captain had called him names during the game.

This morning it’s the turn of Daily Record readers to get the benefit of the former strikers’ thoughts and feelings.

“I’m a happy man right now,” the 33-year-old claimed. “I must admit it. I love this football club and I want to give everything for the manager because I know he deserves it.

“This is his last year and I think if we win this one it will be one of the best titles of his career. That’s why we have to do it – and I think we will.

“Of course it is still possible to win this title. The players have not given up and I don’t believe our fans have given up either. Let Celtic fans think the season is over but our supporters believe in us and we need to keep going.

“We have a wonderful group of players. Bad results can happen but that was a one-off. We’ve got Celtic in the Scottish Cup, we’ve got them again in the League Cup Final and then the biggest one of all is the league game at our place.

“If we win our two games in hand then beat Celtic at home we will be a point above them so how can anyone say it is over because of one result? One result means nothing. Trust me, I believe we are going to win this title and we will do it by sticking together.

“Sunday was a bad day but it’s a long season and everything is still in our own hands. So it’s not all over. It was just a bad performance. You just have to forget it and start thinking about the next big game.”

Amongst most manager’s pet hates is players mouthing off in the media about what they are going to do.

Smith worked with some of the biggest players in Rangers post-war history and must be cringing every time that he reads about Diouf’s latest outburst.

After a defeat from Celtic a comment from the club captain is usually all that surfaces as the players are put through the mill in training.

Richard Gough, John Brown, Stuart McCall and Ally McCoist would be wise enough to keep a low profile after an emphatic defeat from Celtic but in the world of Diouf things are all about me, me me.

“It was a huge experience for me,” he added. “I knew what I was going to get from the fans but I enjoyed it. If I could play in an atmosphere like that every single Sunday I would be the happiest man in the world.

“I know Celtic fans don’t like me but that means nothing to me. I’m just completely focused on my football.

“The fans want to wind me up and the Celtic players were doing it again too – I’m sure you could see what was happening on the pitch. The ref didn’t help much either.

“But none of that matters. I’m a strong guy and I can deal with it. I don’t mind it. It’s just a little bit of spice in a derby game. And I like a spicey one.”

What Celtic fan has said the title race is over?

The result was a one-off? Just like the New Year game at Owebrox then?

He loves the club? We’ll see just how much he loves the club when, come the end of the season, if he’s prepared to take a 90% pay cut (the Huns are currently paying only 10% of his wage such was Blackburn’s desire to get rid) to join them on a permanent transfer.

I know Celtic fans don’t like me! Who would have thought that the rat-faced wee greeting stinkbomb would ever have been a master of the understatement?
