Neil Lennon cautious over Rogne

|

Thomas Rogne Celtic newsNeil Lennon won’t rush Thomas Rogne back into action against Dundee United on Sunday.

Rogne was substituted during Celtic’s Co-Operative Cup semi final win over Aberdeen a fortnight ago and missed the recent visits to Pittodrie and Ibrox.

Stand-ins Mark Wilson and Charlie Mulgrew have turned in outstanding performances with Daniel Majstorovic returning to fitness in the 2-2 draw with Rangers.

Celtic’s visit to Tannadice on Sunday looks like being another lively occasion with Lennon wary of risking Rogne’s fitness with three games in a month coming up against Rangers.

“Last Sunday came too early for him,” the Celtic boss explained to Channel 67. “We’ll assess him over the next couple of days.

“He’s doing a little bit of physical work, a bit more running and we’ll see if he has any reaction to the injury. Hopefully it won’t be long term.”

Lennon picked up the manager of the month award for January with his side maintaining their form.

Despite drawing with Rangers the Celtic support claimed a moral victory from their visit to Ibrox with the ten men coming from behind to equalise and dominate the second half.

Dundee United won’t be throwing out any welcome mat for their visitors on Sunday with Lennon anxious to get back to business.

“We’ve achieved nothing yet,” the Celtic boss warned. “We’ve made good progress but the expectation level at this club is to win things and put a team on the pitch that the fans can identify with.

“I think that we’re doing that but the acid test is to deliver trophies- that’s the main motivation for myself, the backroom staff and the players as well.”
