Ki gets Vietnam invite

Ki Sung Yeung Celtic newsKi Sung-Yeung has been invited to a prestigious charity match in Vietnam alongside Carlos Tevez, Patrice Evra and Pavel Nedved.

The game is being arranged by Manchester United’s Park Ji-sung who is launching the JS Foundation to boost football opportunities throughout South East Asia.

Park retired from international football after collecting his 100th cap at the Asian Cup and is wanting to give something back to the sport.

June 15 has been set aside as a date for the match with all the money raised given to the Vietnam Football Federation to develop the game.

“This will be a new starting point and the final destination in my football career,” said Park, who is the foundation’s executive director. “I want to do something meaningful through football to share with the world.

“We want to promote football in Southeast Asia through various projects in cooperation with football associations there.”

Ki returned to international in midweek playing the full 90 minutes for South Korea in their 0-0 draw with Turkey.

Earlier in the season Ki looked to be on his way out of Celtic but Neil Lennon had no hesitation in throwing him straight into the team to play Rangers last week despite being absent for over a month at the Asian Cup.

That tournament ended in disappointment for the Koreans when they lost out in the semi-final to Japan with Ki looking to become a winner at Celtic over the remaining months of the season.

He said: “”I’ve come back to a very strong midfield but that’s not a surprise, I normally do when I have been away on international duty.

“I need to compete against the others for a place but we have to mix together.

“There are only three months until the end of the season. We have to focus on every game as every one of them is important.”

“The team won a lot of games when I was away and it is good to see the players working hard.

“Celtic are top of the league now and we have an opportunity to win the League Cup too.

“That’s something I really want to win – along with the League title.

“I want to play in the Final. I’ve never won a medal before – I’ve never even been in a final before.”

Well done young Ki. The bhoy is going from strength to strength. Another tick for Lenny’s wonderful man-management skills methinks, not to mention the wonderful natural talents of the bhoy himself!
