Mike Parry’s decision to quit talkSport could give the tired world of Scottish broadcasting the shake up it needs.
Without doubt Parry was the voice of talkSport with his unique mix of maverick controversy matched to a keen eye for a news story helping to define the station.
Despite having no dedicated Scottish coverage the station enjoys a healthy share of the Scottish radio market with it’s programmes and presenters providing a welcome opinionated contrast to the output of Scottish stations.
You don’t have to listen in long to know the allegiances of the presenters with Parry singing the praises of Everton throughout a trophyless decade and Alan Brazil never slow to bring Celtic into the conversation.
In contrast Scottish broadcasting is filled up with so-called Airdrie, Motherwell, St Mirren and Partick Thistle supporters trying to balance their views without giving away their true feelings or fearful of criticising a favoured source.
Using the word ‘we’ when discussing any club issue must be avoided at all costs.
A splash of the Parry/talkSport cocktail would brighten up the airwaves with presenters giving opinions from a more credible viewpoint knowing that 80% of those listening are Celtic or Rangers supporters.
As the message boards culture shows no one is more critical of a club than their own supporters.
Having pundits happy to identify with club and articulating the feelings and fervour of supporters could provide a god-send in terms of listening figures.
As he comes to terms with a break from radio I’m sure that Parry won’t be short of offers to continue his career.
Ironically, considering that the arrival of Andy Gray and Richard Keys I’m certain that Sky Sports will be showing an interest in Evertonian Parry, ESPN would be another company that has him in mind.
But best of all, with four Glasgow derbies to cover before the season finishes, will any Scottish broadcaster be brave enough to offer Parry the chance to spice things up by giving him an hour or two to work the punters into a frenzy?

No chance! Radio Snyde or Radio Shortbread giving someone as outspoken as him airspace? These bams never debate the real BIG issues and I’m sure Porky would want to get to grips with these.
BTW, I can’t really stand the man! But I can appreciate the fact that he is not a bland fencesitter nor is he afraid of airing his true allegiances.
I gave up on Clyde and Radio Scotland phone in’s years ago.
Talksport isn’t great nowadays, but that and 5live are a breath of fresh air.

Mike Parry is a short armed fat numty
His “opinions” made me want to crash my car so I stopped listening to his shows, he eventually got buried in the late morning talk sport slot which was a god-send for me as I didn’t have to listen to his shite anymore.
As for him coming to a scottish radio station, dont be daft that’ll never happen
