Former Celt Willie McStay has left Ross County as manager.

An announcement was made late on Saturday following the 0-0 home draw with Stirling Albion.

McStay was appointed manager of the Highland club in November but was only in charge for nine matches which included two goal-less draws with Dundee United before going out of the Scottish Cup on penalties.

In seven league games County drew four and lost three times and currently sit second bottom on 17 points alongside Cowdenbeath and Dundee, four points above Stirling Albion.

A club statement read: “The board of Ross County FC tonight (Saturday 12 February, 2011) announced that the club has parted company with manager Willie McStay, with immediate effect.

“The manager’s departure follows a series of disappointing results in Ross County’s First Division campaign.

“Club Chairman Roy MacGregor and the manager discussed the situation following today’s 0-0 draw with Stirling Albion and Mr McStay’s departure was agreed by mutual consent.

“The board would like to express their thanks to Mr McStay for his commitment and effort during his time at the club and wish him well for the future.

“A recruitment process by the board to identify and appoint a new manager will begin straight away. In the meantime the club’s Director of Football, George Adams, will assist with the running of first team affairs.”
