Walter Smith bans players from twitter

|

twitter Celtic newsRangers boss Walter Smith has banned his players from using twitter amongst a range of hard-line disciplinary measures.

According to a report in today’s Daily Record players have been told to stay off social networks, steer clear of nighclubs and keep their warring WAGS off the front pages.

Smith is very much from the old school of management and has clamped down on his players off-field activities in a bid to concentrate their minds on the final three months of the season.

Most clubs have concerns about twitter and other social networking by their players but attempt to guide them on the do’s and don’t’s on-line.

Smith’s long term friend Sir Alex Ferguson had reservations about Rio Ferdinand going on-line but the defender’s twitter diary has won him an army of fans from around the world with his laid back attitude and opinions.

Celtic midfielder’s Joe Ledley and Ki Sung-Yeung are regulars on twitter following the example of the recently departed Marc Crosas.

The last tweet from a Rangers player came from Maurice Edu on February 20. A n hour before facing Celtic the midfield posted: ” Game time Old Firm derby let’s go.”
