Neil Lennon- no one is feeling the pressure

|

Neil Lennon Celtic newsNeil Lennon is confident that his players can handle the pressure of the title run-in.

Two back-to-back 1-0 wins over St Mirren and St Johnstone have tested the nerves of supporters and tested the resolve of the players.

Game by game Lennon’s side are going to be questioned in the run-in to the title but their gaffer has total faith in their ability to handle the pressure.

“A lot has been made of the pressure but I don’t think anyone is feeling it,” Lennon told channel 67. “We’re not talking about it.

“We’re just going out and playing. We know what is required, what’s at stake and there’s a real determination and belief amongst them.

“You could see that at St Johnstone, the application was very good, there was no thrills or fasten-your-seatbelt stuff. It was roll up the sleaves and do a good job, even Emilio who likes to play knew what the conditions were like and knew when to play and when to create.

“At this stage of the season you are looking for consistency. We made a few changes for the St Mirren game, we took a bit of a calculated risk for that but I knew that we had enough quality on the bench to come on and change the game if we needed to, that was the case.

“We can obviously play a lot better but I thought that the performance at St Johnstone was more like us. There was a good tempo to the game and intensity to our play.”

On Sunday the focus switches briefly from the SPL to the Scottish Cup with Aberdeen standing between Celtic and a place in the Hampden final.

Despite having beaten Aberdeen four times this season and scoring 17 goals in the process Lennon is expecting a demanding afternoon on Sunday

“Aberdeen will be determined, they’ll want to avoid the performance that they put in in the League Cup semi-final,” the Celtic boss added. “It’s a huge game for them, they’ve not been to a cup final for a while and it would mean a lot for them to get there but we have to be at our very best.

“It’s an important game for us as well, there’s a cup final to play for at the end of the season and silverware which is what this club is all about.

“We’ll approach the game as best we can, by all accounts they played very well against Rangers, it was a very determined performance and I’d expect no less from Craig Brown and Archie Knox.”
