Peter Lawwell looks for heroes

|

Celtic newsCeltic chief Peter Lawwell believes that Neil Lennon is building a team to replace the heroes of the recent past.

Since the Martin O’Neill days ended only Artur Boruc and Aiden McGeady have created any real connection with the fans.

Lennon has been forced into completely overhauling the team that he inherited from Tony Mowbray and has come up with a few heroes in the making.

Biram Kayal and Emilio Izaguirre were virtually unknown to the Celtic support a year ago but now a team without the Israeli or Honduran international wouldn’t be worth contemplating.

“We know Neil very well,” Lawwell told Channel 67. “He’s been around the club for a long time and we know his qualities.

“One of those qualities is his understanding of our support- understanding what they need and desire.

“Although we haven’t won anything yet we’ve come on leaps and bounds from this time last year.

“The suppoters connect with Neil they understand him and appreciate what he’s trying to do

“Over the years we’ve lost our stars, our iconic figures, our challenge is to bring in new players, to find new stars and idols.

“We have a young team that are starting to knit together and there are some individuals who can become heroes- the type that the supporters can look upto for years to come.”
