Why won't the SPL release the post-split fixture list?

Two days after the make up of the top and bottom of the SPL was confirmed there is still no sign of the post-split fixtures being published.

With less than a fortnight to go no clubs in the SPL other than Celtic and Rangers know who they will be playing over the weekend.

Motherwell’s draw with Hearts on Saturday coupled with Inverness Caley Thistle failing to beat Kilmarnock ensured that the Fir Park side will be in the top six for the final round of fixtures.

Surely the SPL should have had Plan A and Plan B ready to publish on Saturday night to let supporters and broadcasters plan ahead.

Neil Doncaster has earned a lot of praise since becoming Chief Executive of the SPL but is showing contempt for supporters, the supposed lifeline of the game, by keeping punters in the dark about the remaining fixtures to the season.

Every set of post-split fixtures attracts controversy but this season’s should be more straightforward than usual.

Kilmarnock and Motherwell’s entry into the top six at the expense of Hibs and Aberdeen has caused a minor problem that is easily overcome.

Celtic have already been to both club’s twice this season and will face a third trip to Fir Park or Rugby Park. Similarly Rangers have met both side’s twice at Ibrox and whichever club gets a third home match with Celtic will also get a third trip to Ibrox.

As well as Ibrox and Rugby Park/Fir Park Celtic will also have to go to Tynecastle after the break and host Dundee United plus Motherwell or Kilmarnock.

Celtic also have to play at Inverness, weather permitting, but there are dates available to slot in that fixture.

Rangers will host Celtic and Hearts plus Kilmarnock or Motherwell as well as travelling to Dundee United and Motherwell or Kilmarnock.

Celtic’s u-19 side have a crucial match tomorrow away to Rangers at Murray Park, kick-off 11am.
