Callum McGregor focuses on title mission

Callum McGregor Celtic strikerCallum McGregor is hoping to take Celtic’s winning run into a double trophy celebration.

Four back-to-back away wins over Kilmarnock, Hamilton, Rangers and St Mirren have taken Stevie Frail’s side to within six points of clinching the title.

The journey to Inveress this morning is bound to be lively with the title in sight and a Hampden date with Rangers next Wednesday in the final of the SFA Youth Cup.

There’s a great atmosphere within the boys,” McGregregor admitted. “Beating Rangers and St Mirren 3-0 was top class.

Against Hamilton we had to grind out the result, it wasn’t going well for us but we worked hard and showed character when Hamilton equalised.

It’s been difficult season with so many postponements, we were building up all week for a match then it would be called off and we had to start again on the Monday.

We had a great fortnight in Turkey which has helped a lot. There’s a good group of players at the club and being together helped us all.

Now we’re having a good run of games, building some momentum and that’s showing in our performances- especially against Rangers.

The game at Barrowfield against Rangers was a nightmare, they gave us a doing but we made amends for that last week.”

McGregor started the season playing wide right but has moved into the centre with great effect, linking play with midfield and showing an eye for goal.

That ability was in evidence last week as he scored the opening goal against Rangers with the Scotland u-19 cap enjoying his new role.

He added: “I’ve been playing in centre midfield since January and I feel that my game has come on a lot.

I enjoy that position and still get the chance to push forward. You always keep an eye out for scraps and that paid off with my goal against Rangers.

Getting the opening goal was important but that game is in the past.

We’re thinking about Inverness now and the coaches make sure of that.

They keep us focussed and training is always good. There’s a great spirit in the squad and you can see that in the results we’re having.”

Today’s match at the Highland Academy, Dingwall kicks off at 1.30pm and you can keep upto date with events on twitter.

On Saturday Inverness lost 1-0 at home to Rangers and lost 3-0 to Celtic in February with James Keatings and Liam Gormley (2) getting the goals.
