New contract offer for former Celt Smith

|

Dundee newsDundee have offered manager Barry Smith a new three year contract.

The former Celt was put in charge at Dens Park in October as the club was plunged into administration.

Despite being forced to field trialists and amateurs Smith steered Dundee to a 23 match unbeaten run and kept them from relegation despite a 25 point reduction being applied due to going into administration.

Smith’s achievements on a shoestring won’t have gone un-noticed in the SPL with Dundee keen to get a new long term deal sorted out.

Dundee chief executive Harry McLean said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Barry has agreed a three-year contract.

“He’s did brilliantly last season keeping the club up against all the odds.

“We’re looking forward to having him run the club from top to bottom and hope one day that he can take us back to where we feel we belong.”

Smith who joined Dundee as part of the deal that brought Morten Wieghorst to Celtic said: “I’ve agreed in principle to stay for another three years. I’m delighted to get my future sorted out because everyone knows my feelings for the club.

“Now I just want to focus on getting as many of the out-of-contract players signed up as I can.

“Hopefully seeing that I’m committed to the club will persuade a few of them to stay and buy into what we’re trying to do here.”
