Sepp Blatter 'survives' as FIFA suspend two executives

President Sepp Blatter has amazingly escaped unscathed from today’s FIFA election despite two of FIFA’s top officials being suspended.

Mohamed Bin Hammam and vice-president Jack Warner have both been suspended by FIFA’s ethics committee as claims of corruption threaten to overwhelm the game’s ruling body.

The ethics committee has cleared Blatter of turning a blind eye to the reported bribes.

The decisions clear the way for him to be re-elected unopposed for a fourth term on Wednesday.

Bin Hammam, who heads Asia’s football confederation, and Warner, from Trinidad, have been accused of offering bribes to officials in the Caribbean. If found guilty, they could be expelled from Fifa and banned from all football activity.

American executive member Chuck Blazer raised the claims against Warner that has brought FIFA to it’s knees.

Although Blatter appears to have survived this scandal his position is virtually untenable with a new regime of accountability almost certain to sweep through the corridors of power.
