Stuart McCall defends Keith Lasley's x-rated foul

|

Stuart McCall Motherwell newsMotherwell boss Stuart McCall has defended Keith Lasley’s x-rated lunge on Glenn Loovens and had a swipe at Scott Brown.

Lasley was only booked for his two footed attack on Loovens in the 14th minute that shocked fans in the stadium and television viewers.

With the defender clearing the ball upfield the Motherwell midfielder slid in wrecklessly with both feet off the ground to collide with the Dutchman.

Brown highlighted Lasley’s booking in his after match comments explaining why the Celtic players had to impose themselves on the game.

Responding to that McCall said: “If you watch the tackle Daniel Majstorovic makes on John Sutton then there’s no doubt in my mind that it could quite easily have been a red card.

“If he watches Keith’s tackle on Loovens again he’ll see Lasley goes in to block the ball. His trailing leg, almost his backside, catches Loovens.

“I didn’t realise how bad the Majstorovic tackle was until I saw it again but I’m not going to have a go at Neil Lennon for the way the game was played.

“Keith is a totally committed player, like Brown, but he’s never gone out to hurt someone. It’s sad.”

Motherwell failed to win any of their last six games of the season, losing 20 goals along the way, but McCall felt the need to lecture Brown on WINNING.

The Fir Park boss told The Sun: “I think he’ll be embarrassed by his comments, or at least he should be. If he watches the game again, as I’m sure he will, he’ll be embarrassed.

“The comment or suggestion that I send my team out to go over the ball in tackles is quite ridiculous.

“I want my players to be competitive, of course I do. But there’s a fine line. As much as losing the Cup Final hurt us we were dignified in defeat.

“You’ve got to take your medicine and we wished Celtic all the best after the game.

“To read that this morning was quite sad to be honest. He should be enjoying his moment because he hasn’t had many this season.”

In 28 matches since taking over as Motherwell manager from Craig Brown McCall has won 10 times.

McCall’s remarks that Lasley…”is a totally committed player, but he’s never gone out to hurt someone” is plainly silly.

Any player who goes into a tackle with the studs showing and regularly makes contact with an opponents leg/boot/ankle or other part of the anatomy, knows he is going to hurt the other person or is just plain stupid.

Maybe Lasley, and perhaps McCall, is just plain stupid.

“He hasn’t had many this season”

That’s rich coming from a wee hun fud who hasn’t had anything to celebrate this season apart maybe from his team’s embarrassing but entirely predictable humpings from rankers.

I’m sure Uncle Wally gave him a pat on the head and a couple of sugar lumps for that.

Wee ginger Jimmy Clitheroe shut yer mooth!

Wee insipid snot with a sh*te fitba team. It doesn’t bother me that he’s a hun (for life) it bothers me that we lost to him once this season and didn’t pump 10 past him in the final.

He couldn’t just have said something like, “yeah, that’s no way to act on a professional footbal pitch but the inexperience of being there and the heat of the moment all came into play.”

Wee broon nose – don’t try climbing up on the garres knee – your a bit hefty nowadays and you will break that auld farts hip.

When you fail at Murderwell there is still St Mir, St Johnstone, ICT, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee utd.
