Derby delight for Belfast Bhoy Paul George

Paul George Celtic newsBelfast bhoy Paul George was delighted to score the winning goal in tonight’s Glasgow Cup Final- so he was.

A pass from Darnell Fisher picked out George early in the second half with the striker curling his shot around Blair Currie into the net off the post to give Celtic a 1-0 win over Rangers in front of 5,000 fans at Celtic Park.

“That feels brilliant,” he smiled afterwards. “It’s a dream come true for me. I watched the 19s win the cup and that’s another trophy for the youths.

“In the first half we were dominant and were a bit disappointed at half time that we hadn’t scored a few goals.

“We came out in the second half and managed to get a goal early on. There’s a good spirit amongst the boys, we’ve stuck together over the last week after it never quite worked out for us at a tournament in Amsterdam. We stick together as a team and it paid off today.

“I scored the winner against Rangers in the group stage at Lennoxtown which was nice, it’s a good record to have.”

George was the pick of the Celts on show tonight but there wasn’t a single failure on the park.

Across the midfield Celtic dominated with strong performances from captain John Herron, Lewis Kidd, Fisher and Mo Yaqub.

At the back Marcus Fraser and Joe O’Brien were composed with full-backs Michael Miller and Joe Chalmers comfortable on the ball.

Herron and George had half chances in the first half but Celtic lacked a bit of quality when they got close to the Rangers goal.

That all changed when George put the ball in the net before racing over to celebrate with the Celtic fans cupping his ears in delight.

Rangers came into the game towards the end but rarely threatened Italian kid Leo Fazan in the hoops goal.
