Kris Commons Celtic newsA hamstring injury could rule Kris Commons out of Saturday’s clash with Perth Glory.

The goal-scoring midfielder sat out Saturday’s defeat to Central Coast Mariners and will have his fitness checked over the course of the week.

With the opening SPL match against Hibs less than three weeks away Neil Lennon won’t be taking any chances on his former Nottingham Forest team-mate.

Speaking in Perth the Celtic boss admitted: “Kris had a bit of a hamstring problem so we’ll see how he is this week but if he’s fit he’ll play.”

Charlie Mulgrew and Thomas Rogne also missed the defeat from Mariners due to knocks.

The Celtic squad will be bolstered on Friday with the arrival of Georgios Samaras, Cha Du-Ri, Ki Sung-Yueng and Daniel Majstorovic although it’s doubtful if any of them will start Saturday’s match.

With the benefits of a full weeks training behind them Lennon is looking for an improved performance against Perth Glory who’ll be managed by former Rangers midfielder Ian Ferguson.

The Celtic boss said: “They’ll be in a lot better shape (than for the Mariners match), a lot better condition as well. Hopefully they’ll have the jet lag all out of them and should be ready for a good performance.

“I was very pleased with the performance (against the Mariners) particularly in the second half considering the lack of preparation that the players had.

“We’re really excited about being in Perth and we’re looking forward to the game in particular, but we’re really just looking forward to a good week’s training and enjoying the week here as well.”

Lets hope the bhoy is ok for the start of the season, absolutely immense for us since he signed, if he played for us the whole of last season we would have ran away with the title. He gives me complete confidence for next season.
