Craig Bellamy Cardiff City newsCraig Bellamy has warned Manchester City that he won’t be accepting a pay off.

The much travelled striker has one year left on his lucrative Eastlands contract and is in no mood to give up his reported salary of £80,000/week.

Combining that wage bill and a transfer fee will put off most clubs from making a move with the Welsh international in no mood to compromise.

City are refusing to allow the striker to go out on loan again after he spent last year at Cardiff City which leaves his career at a crossroads as the new season approaches.

He told The Telegraph: “To be honest, I do not want to go on loan again, because where would I go after that? After another loan period my options would be probably reduced.

“A permanent move would be the best, but it would have to be somewhere wealthy, so I can guarantee future earnings for my charity, but that would be difficult with my current wages.

“If they [City] pay me my final year of my wages, then I’m sure I can go wherever I want. In that case, my first option would be Cardiff, to give it another go. But is has to be feasible, the financial health of the club is the most important thing.

“Obviously it all depends on Manchester City. At present, I expect to go back there and stay the whole year. And if Mancini is still there, I’ll do probably very little, obviously I won’t be involved with him and the first team.”

  • Bellamy is ungrateful…..he should be sold and got rid of…..he has been treated with great respect by Mancini and yet continues to throw around nonsense…….all of City’s problem players were bought by Hughes.

Bellamy basically wants his dosh, that is his only God. Gordion Gekko is one of his heroes.

I really hope the rumours that Celtic are in for Bellamy are miles from the truth and just a smokescreen from our true targets .

He is a injury prone troublemaker , ok he is talented but he is not good for dressing room morale especially on anything over 25k a week .

I have to say, Bellamy is a master at playing hard ball. Man City sihned him on a lucrative contract so why should he lose out just because Mancini doesn’t fancy him.

No Premiership team will give him the same wages, so either man City will pay up his contract and he’ll go to Cardiff or at the end of the window Celtic will get him on loan paying 1/3 of his wages.

Couldn’t agree more Simon K. After reading his comments today he does sound like a spoiled little brat. Use the cash to get Jay Bothroyd on the books. A much better option financially.

I don’t like Bellamy’s attitude (even though he claims it’s all about his chatrity) but would any of us voluntarily leave our job to take one with two-thirds or half the pay?

Personally, I don’t think he’s the type of striker we need. People may say it’s not our style but I’d like us to go for a big target man, a la Hartson n Sutton, that scores goals and Hooper could feed off.

On a day when Celtic released Graham Carey instead of looking for a fee, thus letting a young player move on with his career at St. Mirren, I hope the manager and the board stay true to such values and don’t line the pockets of any of the football mercenary loan signings out there.

  • Brian says:

I said in the previous Bellamy article that we should stay clear, we don’t need a “blue chip” signing that we cant afford both in terms of cash and probably on and off field trouble. Again as I said previously he would be our Diouf, a sideshow. Spend the money if it is available elsewhere.
