Robbie Fowler Thailand newsLiverpool legend Robbie Fowler has ducked out of a final appearance for Perth Glory in the friendly with Celtic.

Fowler played for Perth last season and had indicated to the club that he’d like to make his farewell appearance against Celtic before returning to his family in England and pursuing his coaching career.

Yesterday Fowler arrived in Bangkok to sign a season long deal with Muang Thong United with Glory owner Tony Sage gutted by the news.

Fowler has been expected to return to Perth on Thursday with Sage disappointed by the striker’s decision.

“I’m in shock”, Sage admitted. “Now that he’s signed (for Muang Thong) he can’t play against Celtic.”

Announcing his move to Thailand Fowler said: “To be here in Thailand is a privilege for me. It will be challenging for me to play in the Thai Premier League.

“I have heard about the Thai Premier League in England that it has become very famous. I hope I can do my duty well. I want to show my football in front of the Thai crowds and hope that the crowds will come and support me.

“I have played in many teams like Liverpool, Manchester City and Leeds United, so to play in Thailand is very interesting for me.”

The Perth Glory v Celtic match kicks off at 10.15am Celtic Park time and goes ahead at the nib Stadium despite some fears over the condition of the pitch.
