MATCH OFF Celtic newsCeltic’s match on Saturday with Perth Glory at the nib Stadium could be cancelled due to waterlogging problems.

Officials of Perth Glory and Allia Venue Management are already addressing the problem and are using two helicopters to dry out the surface.

Celtic will take a look at the surface tomorrow with plans underway that could see the match switched to Patersons Stadium or the famous WACA ground.

Glory chief executive Paul Kelly said: “I’m 90 per cent sure the game will be here it’s just that one area that needs a lot of work,” Kelly said.

“We’ll probably call it first thing in the morning. Celtic will have to come down and have a look themselves at the pitch but I’m sure they’ve played on far worse pitches in far north Scotland.”

Allia chief executive Peter Bauchop will make the decision about whether to switch venues and is concerned about the drainage issue at the nib Stadium.

He said: “We’ve hired fans that will be running all night. We’ve set up tarps to restrict the dew and keep drying happening as much as possible.

“I’ve even got a helicopter hired for tomorrow morning to hover over the pitch to see what we can do.”

“Stability under foot for the players is our number one concern, We need machines to cut it and roll it and there are some sections that our machines can’t cut and roll.”

Celtic were no strangers to wasted journeys last season- twice travelling overnight to Inverness only for the matches to be called off hours before kick-off.

With a question mark over the nib Stadium Celtic will be training at the WACA throughout this week.
