Victor Wanyama Celtic newsVictor Wanyama will make his Celtic debut tonight against Cardiff City.

Neil Lennon is looking to play his strongest side with an eye on Sunday’s SPL opener against Hibs but is anxious to see the young Kenyan in action.

The Hoops boss told The Celtic View: “Viktor Wanyama looked very impressive in training so we are hoping to take him to Cardiff and maybe get some game time.

“We like the look of him, he’s 20 but already he’s a man and has played a lot of football. He has real presence on the pitch, is good in the air, is comfortable on the ball and very strong.

“He can play centre-midfield as well but we already have good depth in there, so predominately we will bring him on as a centre half. With the ability and the versatility he has he can adapt to any position very well.”

Discussing the players readyness for the start of the season on Saturday Lennon added: “They are still feeling a bit sore and stiff from the travelling but hopefully that will ease as the week goes on.

“They will get another game under their belt against Cardiff and then we will prepare on Friday and Saturday for Hibs.

“We just need another game to give them some more football time so we are pleased we have Cardiff coming up and it should be a good test for us.

“Cardiff will be a very good side, they are a quality team and have been consistent in the Championship, making the play-offs year after year and pretty unlucky not to have been promoted.

“They have a new manager in Malky who is a very progressive manage who did a lot of good things at Watford so I’m hoping for a good open game of football.”
