Carlos Cuellar ignores Rangers plea

Carlos Cuellar Rangers newsCarlos Cuellar has snubbed the 24 hour deadline that Rangers set on the transfer of the Spanish defender.

Despite agreeing a fee with Aston Villa and being in talks with the players agent Cuellar has turned his back on Ally McCoist’s public pleas by heading back to Spain rather than open talks with Rangers.

With less than 48 hours to go before the signing deadline for next week’s Champions League tie with Malmo the Rangers boss has almost given up on bringing Cuellar back to Ibrox.

Last night the rookie Rangers boss admitted: “We wanted an answer from Carlos today, definitely. He knows that, as does his agent and lawyer.

“There has been no news yet, unfortunately, from Carlos. He’s not been in touch. I understand he’s in Spain.

“How would I assess our chances? I have no idea. There is only one man who can answer that question and that’s Carlos. I don’t know if he’s talking to other clubs in Spain but I’ve never asked for any assurances.

“Carlos has not been in touch with me. Andrew Dickson (Rangers’ head of football administration) has been in constant dialogue with his agent and obviously we are hoping to move it along.

“But the thing about his situation is that Carlos won’t be fit to play in the immediate future. So, as quickly as we want it over the line, it’s not a massive priority. At this stage, other players would be the priority.”

Cuellar’s snub came on the same day that Kyle Bartley announced that his priority is to force his way into the Arsenal squad.

Despite the arrival of Craig Whyte and a £15m transfer warchest McCoist’s only signing has been Juan Ortiz although Allan McGregor, Steven Whittaker and Steve Davis have all signed new long term deals to stay at Ibrox.

    Joe,
Far be it for me to say anything good about the Smarmy Git….
But…credit where it’s due….he’s come out and told his supporters exactly the situation with Cuellar ….no spin…no smoke …no mirrors…
Think this will catch on ??….

  • Joe says:

Frankly, I don’t care what they do in the transfer market but i do like the point just made by Mike Bhoyle. Why sit back and say nothing, allowing the guttersnipe media to fabricate their own version of events?

This said, I bet there are a few quaking in ther wee shoes right now knowing that the lowlife world of people in the media in the UK is a little under the microscope! The Scottish media have to be filling their pants right now. many of them have never placed a true word in their columns and the thin edge of the wedge has to be scaring them.

    • bhoylondon67 says:

The Press in Scotland make up their own version of events when it comes to Celtic regardless of the story or what is said, look at how they distorted what Lennon said about the Gers fans pathetic fly over.
If we were being knocked back daily by players after non-stop talking about transfer targets to the Press i would be seriously embarrassed and annoyed at the management and board. The club needs to let the support know what’s going on to a point, but let’s be realistic, just imagine for one minute this was Lennon not being backed by the owner and being snubbed by every single transfer target he was openly speaking out about.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

    bhoylondon67: It’s a good point you make and I see where you’re coming from….
But Smarmy is at least being open …he could have said zilch…or spun a yarn to keep his Bears happy….I thought he handled it Ok….
    Mea Culpa.

    • Ciaran says:

There is very little difference between keeping supporters up to speed, and publically discussing the signing of a player who is under contract to another club.
It is slightly different with Cuellar as they have agreed a fee.
What about Goodwillie, Conway, Wallace, Miller and all the others that knocked them back.

They should be recieving criticism from the press.

They are not, we DEFO would. That’s why we must do it properly. No matter how frustrating it may be.

    • bhoylondon67 says:

Good point also, i think there is a balance to be found, if Rangers were actually completing transfers then it wouldn’t be such an issue, but humorously they are failing left right and centre! Long may Whytes business whizzkid signing policy continue, that’s the short arms – deep pockets policy.

  • bhoylondon67 says:

Just noticed a daily ranger article on Rangers probably losing out on Miller to Cardiff, no journalist brave enough to put their name to a negative Rangers story AS USUAL, at least this negative Rangers story was not by “UNKNOWN”!
This is the pathetic, cowardly media we are dealing with.

  • colin says:

I bet we get him and a couple of surprise signings we are looked at as the biggest club in Scotland did you know that google it.

And this is the season to make a real impact on the big cup- Ally is owed it after being cheated out the trophy by Marseilles in 93.

  • colin says:

Oh and Miller said he would like to come back to Rangers, Bursapor are just eating sour grapes because we refused to sell them whittaker

    • bhoylondon67 says:

Is that the same Miller who advised the sensational Kris Commons to SNUB Rangers and sign for Celtic?

  • Big Mike says:

Ranjurz winning the big cup! That is funny!!!

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

    There’s always wan…unfortunately….

  • Bhoy oh Bhoy says:

Oh Colin, Colin, Colin. Is that what you genuinely believe? Rangers will never win ‘the big cup’. Miller probably would like to go back to Rangers too… but not for the wages they’d be willing to pay. Cuellar will not be returning either. Also, McMoist will not be Rangers manager at the end of the season. Good times- the future’s bright, the future’s green and white.

  • Bhoy oh Bhoy says:

I’d also just like to add, regarding the McCoist comments on signings- he’s looking a proper fool (along with the club) for openly stating who he wants to buy only to be repeatedly rejected. Some respect to other clubs should also be shown- DON’T discuss players under contract! Why have they not been punished for ‘tapping’ players?

  • Gerry S says:

I think its funny that the press are bigging up every name that smarmy sally mentions, but they still seem unlikely to mention that clubs are scared to deal with Rankers due to their possible administraion through the tax case.

Clubs normally deal on a basis of deposit and several further payments are un willing to risk a part payment deal.

With Whytes statement of liquidation this has alerted clubs that wouldn’t normally take so deep an interest.

I’ll see Sally signing on the dole at Christmas time.

    • bhoylondon67 says:

Walter Myth will have decided between Barcelona and Real Madrid by then so he can always join up with him in Spain if it all goes Mcoist shaped, sorry pear shaped.
